On a evaporative tray or added to the various substrates, they are particularly adapted for the preservation of orchids by supplying them a regulated humidity. 
Just vaporize some water on the surface to maintain crystals in their maximum volume. Do not hesitate to put back them soaking 4 hours into the water (in a bucket) if you observe a too important loss of volume.
